Becoming an older adult brings new life challenges, changing health needs, and important decisions about care and well-being. Grounded in the latest advances in the science of aging, this graduate-level course examines the physiological and neurological changes of normal aging, how they differ from disease, and how biological, psychological, social, and environmental factors influence health, function, independence, and quality of life.
This course offers a clinical track for healthcare professionals and a general track for patients, caregivers, and families. Clinical learners examine course concepts through the lens of geriatric assessment, care, and clinical decision-making, while general learners develop the knowledge needed to navigate aging and healthcare decisions for themselves and others. Participants practice applying person-centered, age-friendly frameworks and core principles of geriatric medicine in real-world aging, health, and clinical decision-making scenarios.
Whether you are a clinician, caregiver, or patient, this course provides an evidence-based roadmap and practical tools to support advance care planning, navigate changing health and functional needs, and promote quality of life for yourself and others in later life.
